Dates: Since each session builds upon learning from the prior session, we recommend registering before the January session. Participants are encouraged to fully engage in each session to optimize learning and deepen understanding.

  • Resources included: Participants will receive a note-catcher PDF to serve as a learning resource guide for each session. District teams who engage in all three sessions will receive a culminating summary slide deck to assist with local implementation.

An Introduction to the Science of Hope

January 13, 2025

Participants will:

  • Consider their current definition of hope and learn about the evolving science of hope across three decades of research.

  • Consider and discuss the current state of hope in the local school community among staff, students, and parents.

  • Learn what neuroscience reveals about the emotions we experience when we lose hope -and how we can build a greater awareness of brain science to increase our levels of hope.

  • Learn why hope matters in education and reflect upon implications.

Taking Action: Strategies for Building Hope

February 18, 2025

Participants will:

  • Share their insights and questions from the previous session.

  • Share any implementation actions they’ve already taken to make hope happen!

  • Engage in discussion to unpack and discover research-based strategies to building hope through skills and mindsets of the hope framework: goals, pathways, and agency.

Organizational Change Implementation: Making Hope Happen!

March 6, 2025

Participants will:

  • Share insights and questions from the previous session.

  • Share any implementation actions already taken to make hope happen!

  • Develop a local purpose statement (exploring the “why?”) for implementation of hope science and hope-building strategies with consideration to existing district level goals and focus areas.

  • Examine and consider implementation of a no-cost hope survey to determine current levels of hope among staff, as a baseline measure to gauge progress throughout the implementation process.

  • Identify the right time and the right people to optimize the implementation plan’s impact on students and staff.

  • Review and discuss resources (books, videos, articles, etc.) the leadership team will leverage to build a deeper understanding of hope and how to cultivate it throughout the system.

  • Utilize a Plan of Action template to begin drafting their plan with coaching assistance and feedback.

Jamie Mead

Jamie Meade

With a career spanning over 35 years in education, Jamie is dedicated to positive change and impact in our nation’s education systems.

She began her career as a High School English teacher in the rural Appalachian regions of Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia, where her passion for empowering students through knowledge and inspiration took root. Jamie’s dedication led her to leadership roles in School- and District-level Administration, including curriculum, instruction, data, and assessment.

She has also served in regional school improvement services with the Ohio Department of Education and as Vice President at Battelle for Kids, a national nonprofit dedicated to advancing educational excellence. In her work at Battelle for Kids, she worked closely with Gallup in designing a student-voice survey to capture the impact of educators in fostering hope, engagement, and belonging in their students.

As an experienced education consultant and speaker, she has delivered keynotes, workshops, and professional learning for thousands of educators on various topics, including data-informed practices, accountability systems, student voice, vertical progressions in K-12 curricula, and the sciences of hope, engagement, and belonging.

She is an experienced keynote speaker at numerous district, state, and national events. She has delivered professional learning sessions at national education conferences, including the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), the American Association of School Administrators (AASA), and the National School Boards Association (NSBA). Since the global pandemic, Jamie has traveled to school districts and conferences in more than 15 states, delivering inspirational messages on the science of hope – and why it matters in education.
