Why Attend?

Is your school district ready to bring your Portrait of a Graduate to life? This immersive four-day learning event is designed for district leadership teams (10-15 members) who have developed their Portrait of a Graduate vision and are wanting to prioritize next steps or who are looking to accelerate their work, or are onboarding new leaders to sustain momentum. Participants will engage in a collaborative and inquiry-based process, focusing on building a sustainable system for deeper learning and future-ready skills for all students. Through this process, participants explore the shifts in mindsets, practices, and systems required for future-ready learning. They will design an intentional, systemic approach for achieving their vision and equip your district with the capacity to move from vision to practice.

This event is designed to help your team achieve the following goals:

  • Advance Your Systems Capacity: Enhance your district's ability to accelerate the impact of your Portrait of a Graduate.

  • Deepen Facilitation Skills: Strengthen your team's capacity to lead future-ready change using a systematic and purposeful approach. Gain experience in developing some educator tools and resources to advance your Portrait implementation.

  • Develop a Theory of Action: Engage in an inquiry process to articulate a Portrait to Practice Theory of Action, creating a clear pathway for implementation.

  • Create a Road Map for Transformation: Develop a comprehensive road map with concrete action steps to guide your teams toward future-ready transformation for all students.

Over the four days, participants will explore several key areas:

  • Understanding the Why and Assessing Readiness: Begin by assessing your district's current state and aligning your efforts with the purpose of your learning framework.

  • Defining Deeper Learning: Develop a shared understanding of deeper learning and how it relates to your Portrait of a Graduate.

  • Unpacking Durable Skills: Explore how to unpack Portrait Competencies and map curriculum for deeper learning.

  • Discuss a Purposeful Assessment System: Discuss the components of an assessment system that effectively measures student progress and informs instructional practices.

  • Designing Sustainable Learning: Develop a plan for designing both deeper learning and a professional learning cycle that is sustainable.

With the use of a Readiness Assessment, BFK will aggregate the needs of the participating districts and tailor the final two days to provide a more personalized learning experience.
