This is a wrap-around program. If districts hire a Year 2 teacher after the program has started for the current school year, they can still register them to begin participating in the program at its current point. The teacher will then make-up the missed session(s) by participating in those the following school year. This wrap-around option will allow them to be program completers and receive the official documents needed for their next steps in certification. Districts will receive formal completion letters and certificates via email when their new teachers have met the requirements.
Goals
The overarching goals are to:
Extend and deepen the learning and skills acquired during the first-year program.
Provide ongoing support and collaboration to address the unique challenges and opportunities of the second year.
Foster a sense of belonging and professional identity among second-year teachers.
Promote reflective practice and continuous improvement in teaching.
Align tightly with DESE’s requirements for BTAP programs.
Components
Ready to help your Year 2 teachers level up their teaching and continue growing and be supported during Year 2? Our Beginning Teachers Community Year 2 program is designed specifically for Year 2 educators and aims to extend and deepen the learning and skills they’ve already acquired. This program is tightly aligned with DESE’s current BTAP requirements. Completion of the Year 2 Pathway meets Section 168-400, RSMo Supp.2015 and Section 168.021.1 as a requirement of Missouri's DESE certification.
We understand that the second year brings its own unique set of opportunities and challenges, and this program provides ongoing support and collaboration along with a district partnership focus to help early career teachers thrive. For this reason, each district will identify a lead contact to partner with us to build a cohesive program best suited to their new hires. We don't want them to just survive their second year, but to conquer it with a community of peers and expert guidance tailored to their needs.
During the 2nd semester of the BTC Year 1 Pathway, participants are invited to complete an Initial Needs Assessment to identify the specific areas where they desire additional support. This information is folded into the Year 2 Pathway for continued learning. Feedback is gathered from participants throughout the year to assess the effectiveness of the program and make adjustments as needed. This program evaluation strategy will help tailor the program to better meet the needs of the teachers and address areas where the program can be strengthened.
This collaborative and supportive program is a mix of seated and virtual sessions with flexibility in sequence. It includes 3 learning designs:
2 Seated Sessions
Observation Opportunities
4 Virtual Sessions
