Over 100 statewide participants have engaged in seven professional learning study sessions concluding with creating five recommendations for moving forward a competency, proficiency-based approach to learning in our state. GOCSD has been an instrumental partner and has had several educators engaging in this work.
The recommendations specifically address the importance of including all students and real world learning experiences. Partnering with businesses is a key part of ensuring quality opportunities.
The group also recommended creating an Innovation Zone which would consist of selected school districts collaborating with DESE in creating a redesigned assessment and accreditation system. This System Design Group along with other selected districts (Learning Design Group and Networks) would engage in professional learning focused on assessment. Cohort 1 would be instrumental in designing the way for districts, schools, and educators to engage in similar work in the future.
You can access this document to review all the details of these recommendations. Note these ideas are being shared with the State Board at today’s June 14th meeting.
The Innovation Summit Leadership Strand will provide more information on this work. Be sure to sign up for these sessions. Future Focused Leadership Strand sessions are color-coded yellow when you choose your sessions.
